Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is 45–60 minutes from the center; Don Mueang (DMK) 30–45 minutes.

The former royal capital of Siam, a UNESCO World Heritage site about 80 km north of Bangkok. Cycle between the ruins, take a boat around the river-ringed old city, and find the Buddha head held in tree roots at Wat Mahathat.
A morning market on the Ton Khem canal in Ratchaburi province, where vendors sell fruit and snacks from boats. Go early: private day trips usually leave Bangkok at 06:00–07:00 and are back by 13:00–14:00.
Seven tiers of turquoise pools in Erawan National Park; the lower tiers are a short walk, the upper ones a real hike. Entry is 300 baht per foreign adult and 150 per child aged 3 to 14.
Raft-house resorts line the River Kwai Noi along Highway 323, about 55 to 105 km beyond Kanchanaburi town; some are reached only by the resort's boat. Sai Yok National Park charges 300 baht per adult and 150 per child.
A long, gentle beach and a relaxed royal seaside town about 200 km southwest of Bangkok. Ideal when babies and toddlers need a short transfer and quiet sand more than big sights.
The nearest seaside to Bangkok's airports. For the islands the car stops at the pier; boat tickets are bought there.
Pattaya has several large water parks, including Ramayana Water Park south of the city, with big slides for older children and shallow splash areas for small ones.
The closest island beaches to Bangkok, with sheltered bays that suit toddlers. Drive to Ban Phe pier in Rayong, then take a ferry or speedboat. The island is a national park, so an entry fee is collected on arrival.
A large, forested island in Trat province with beaches and waterfalls. Transfers end at the Ao Thammachat ferry pier at Laem Ngop; the car does not go onto the island, so you board on foot. Park fees at the waterfalls: 200 baht per adult, 100 per child.
Chiang Mai is about 700 km from Bangkok (8–9 hours by road), so most families fly. Sukhothai to Chiang Mai is 4–5 hours by car.
Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is flat and spread out, so cycling between the seated Buddhas and lotus ponds suits confident riders. New Sukhothai town is about 12 km away.
Watching elephants forage and bathe on their own is a highlight at any age. World Animal Protection's rule: look, don't touch. No riding, no bathing with elephants, no shows, no contact with baby elephants.
Khao Yai and Korat are a drive from Bangkok; for Khon Kaen and Udon Thani most families fly and use short transfers from the small airports.
Thailand's best-known national park for families, about 180 km northeast of Bangkok: viewpoints, waterfalls such as Haew Suwat, and a real chance of wild elephants on the road. Hotels are around Pak Chong and Thanarat Road.
Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) has a large open-concept zoo run by the state Zoological Park Organization. About an hour further is Phimai Historical Park, a Khmer sandstone temple complex older children can explore like a maze.
The Department of Mineral Resources runs a fossil research center and museum in the Phu Wiang hills, where dinosaur fossils were found, about 80–90 km west of Khon Kaen city.
Nong Han lake at Kumphawapi, about 40 km southeast of Udon Thani, turns pink with water lilies from late November or early December to February. Boat trips of about 60–90 minutes are hired at the lake.
Phuket and Krabi are a flight from Bangkok. The Andaman side is wettest from May to October, when waves and currents make swimming riskier; families usually come from November to April.
Outside the monsoon, several west-coast bays have shallow, clear water for a first snorkel with a parent alongside. In the wet months swim only where lifeguards and flags say it is safe.
Ao Nang is the family base, with long-tail boats to Railay, whose beaches sit under limestone cliffs and have no road access. Children love the boat ride.
